Occupational Safety and Health

The purpose of annual OSH Surveys is to assure safe and healthful working conditions in occupied space and work sites.  Annual OSH survey reports are provided to facility managers responsible for the work areas inspected.  These surveys are typically “announced”.

Our OSH SMEs have led site visits to each workplace coordinated with the property manager. Our professionals document the site visit with an OSH survey report.  Our report is not an exception reports (reports of deficiencies only) and includes the following factors: 

    1. Compliance with 29 CFR 1910, and 29 CFR 1960, GSA Orders, issues, policies, agreements negotiated with labor organizations and other pertinent national safety consensus guidelines.
    2. A list of work areas inspected, descriptions of all operations observed and comments concerning frequency of future OSH surveys due to the presence of increased risk activities.
    3. Based on risk activities and potential for work related hazards recommend evaluations or measurements, when applicable (noise, lighting, ventilation, air or wipe samples, etc.).
    4. Recommend assigning risk assessment codes for identified hazards.
    5. Provide a list of recommendations to include engineering controls, personal protective equipment or medical surveillance requirements. 
    6. Review of the personal protective equipment program, including an inspection of personal protective clothing and equipment.
    7. Assurance that the facility lockout/tagout procedures are in place and effective.
    8. Assurance that the facility is in conformance with the Hazard Communication program. 
    9. Effectiveness of the confined space entry program, where applicable.
    10. Pictures of findings shall be included in the report.

A report of survey findings is usually made available to the facility Occupational Safety and Health Manager within 15 calendar days after the conclusion of the survey.  The report also contains a code reference to findings noted, a picture of findings, the type of monitoring, and equipment used.  Recommendations included in the report explain precisely what is required to eliminate or reduce the risk of injury/illness by means of engineering controls, administrative procedures, or personal protective clothing and equipment.  The recommendations also note workplaces that, in the opinion of the AHT Environmental and Industrial Hygiene professionals conducting the survey, have a potential for increased risk to occupants and tenants alike.  We also hold an end of assessment briefing  with the client and provide a detailed assessment of the visit with visual aids in the form of powerpoint slides.  

Pandemic / Covid-19 Action Plan: Our team is fully cognizant of the threat the Covid-19 pandemic poses to our society and at the same time fully appreciates that mission critical business must carry on. Our personnel strictly follow the guidelines issued by the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Use of Personal Protective Equipment including face mask and selective use of hand gloves while carrying out building walkthrough is not optional but a mandatory requirement. Our personnel are fully trained in handwashing procedures, coughing and sneezing techniques, and social distancing.
